Whose history are we actually talking about when we talk about Wivi Lönn’s history? How are gender and sexuality related to the history of architecture and urban planning? Or how have different spaces affected the visibility of marginalized identities? Starting from the Long Live Wivi Lönn! exhibition and continuing to the streets of Helsinki, the themed guided tour ‘Queer Gaze to the History of Architecture and Space’ encourages its participants to look at the exhibition and the history of architecture and urban space critically. During the themed guided tour, with an expert guide, we will discuss the relationship between power and the city space, the themes of visibility and invisibility, and where people belonging to minority subcultures met each other in 20th-century Helsinki.

The themed guided tour starts from the Museum of Finnish Architecture (Kasarmikatu 24, 00130 Helsinki) and ends at Lasipalatsi (Mannerheimintie 22–24, 00100 Helsinki).

The themed guided tour series is a collaboration with the Museum of Finnish Architecture and Friends of Queer History association. The themed guided tour is scripted and guided by historian Jean Lukkarinen. The themed guided tour series is part of Long Live Wivi Lönn! public programme.

Welcome!

Friends of Queer History

Friends of Queer History is an association established in 2020, aiming to raise awareness on history of gender and sexual diversity, and advance researching, collecting and presenting queer history in Finland. The association promotes researching, collecting and presenting queer history in Finland by actively influencing relevant players, and we collaborate especially with memory organizations to achieve these goals. We organize the Queer History Month yearly in November. For more information: https://sateenkaarihistoria.fi/en/ (link opens in a new tab)
